WELDING & FABRICATION SERVICES
All our welding and fabrication contractors are proficient at both Gas Tungsten Arc Welding and Shielded Metal Arc Welding. This includes the use of hydrogen controlled consumables over a wide range of materials from low temperature carbon steel to stainless steel.
GAS TUNGSTEN ARC WELDING
Gas Tungsten Arc Welding is best suited to weld thin sections of stainless steel and light metals, such as aluminium,
magnesium, and copper alloys.
The process allows the operator greater control over the welding process than other methods, which results in stronger, high-integrity welds. The disadvantages are that GTAW is more complex and slower than many other welding techniques.
SHIELDED METAL ARC WELDING
Manual Metal Arc welding (MMA) performed manually is often referred to as Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) or stick electrode welding.
The common applications include construction, pipelines, machinery structures, shipbuilding, fabrication job shops, and repair work. It is preferred over oxy-fuel gas welding for thicker sections above 5 mm because of higher power density available in this process.
The equipment is portable and of low cost, making MMAW highly versatile and probably the most widely used arc welding processes. Base metals used include steels, stainless steel, cast irons, and certain nonferrous alloys.
